The Team

History of AthletIQ

In 2016, Founder Matt Mooney had an idea that would forever change how players practice shooting. He was in his redshirt year at the University of South Dakota when it dawned on him that all of his practice and workout shots were wide open, while the majority of in game shots were heavily contested. He wanted to create something that would contest him in workout and practice settings. As he pursued his dream of playing in the NBA, his idea took a backseat until 2020. In 2020, he teamed up with an engineer friend to add some technology to the original concept so that the contest mimicked an actual human being.

An empty bank account and three prototypes later, Matt had a clear vision for the future of the company. Although his idea started as a way to simulate game conditions and game shot contests, it has evolved into something far greater - a technology that gives tailored guidance to each player’s unique shot.

Our Vision

Our vision for the future is to be in every gym across the country from beginners to the elite pros, from home gyms to training facilities and more. With the game evolving to value shooting, and with the emergence of AI, our timing is perfect to revolutionize basketball training globally.

Our technology has limitless potential. We intend to expand beyond practice and workout settings to be able to give tailored guidance and analytics profiles of in game performance as well.  While our technology is currently focused on basketball, it can and will be utilized to provide the same advantage in a variety of other sports.
